What is Functional Threshold Power?

In simple terms, your Functional Threshold Power (FTP), is the maximum amount of Power you can sustain for an hour.

Think of your body as an engine. Similarly, your muscles convert biochemical energy into mechanical energy, and in the process produce waste that we commonly know as ‘lactic acid’. The point at which your body is able to clear lactic acid out from your muscles as fast as it is being produced is your Lactate Threshold. Dipping beyond that causes lactate to accumulate in your blood, which without going too deep, affects what your body requires from the carbohydrate – fat fuel mixture, and the development of muscle fatigue.

As a result, your Lactate Threshold is a key performance indicator of your endurance ability and metabolic fitness. Your Functional Threshold Power, which also takes into account cycling efficiency, is an expression of that in terms of Watts.

Where will the session be held? How long does a session take?

The session will be held in T3 Bicycles Gears (Bukit Timah Branch), Level 2. The address is: 805 Bukit Timah Road, #01-06, Sixth Avenue Centre, Singapore 279883.

The session will take about 1.5 hours. This includes warm – up, cool – down, as well as interpretation and discussion of test results.
